The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is hosting a free information session this Thursday, spreading the word about their various volunteer opportunities. Debbie Augey is the volunteer coordinator for the SHA. She says there will be two sessions held at the Weyburn Public Library.
“We invite people to come on down and learn about what those different volunteer opportunities are and to hopefully get them to be interested to find out a little bit more and maybe become involved in some of these programs. That's our purpose. We're holding two different sessions, one at 1:30 p.m. and the other at 6:30 p.m.”
Augey explains these opportunities mainly center around their long-term care facilities.
“We have two long-term care facilities, the Weyburn Special Care Home and Tatagwa View. The recreation department brings in volunteers all the time to come and help with events, with programs, with visiting, with residents, special events, all sorts of things to help enhance the quality of life for the residents that live there.”
She stresses there are a variety of opportunities to suit all kinds of volunteers.
“There are opportunities there for all sorts of groups, community service groups, different organizations, businesses that might want to get involved, students, families, couples or individuals. There is no age restriction actually and it's a nice opportunity to get to know your community a little better."
