Another stellar performance by the Cochrane Water Ninjas, this time in Camrose over the weekend.
Boasting a contingent of 43 swimmers, nearly outnumbering the host team, the Water Ninjas won top spot. Team members showed remarkable improvements, with swimmers shaving off time and setting new personal bests.
Among the standout performances, Oliver Johnson made history with a time of 49.19 seconds in the 100m manikin carry with fins, making him the first and only swimmer in Alberta to break the 50-second barrier.
Additionally, Briar Paiement set three new club records in the U9 age category.

The Camrose competition was the first event of the season to feature the Simulated Emergency Response Competition (SERC). This unique event evaluates lifesavers on their initiative, judgment, knowledge, and fitness as they respond to an unknown simulated emergency within a two-minute time limit.
The Water Ninjas entered three teams in the event, with the girls’ team finishing first in their debut.
“It’s incredible to see records being reset by both the girls and boys, from the development level up to the performance groups," states Alexx Diep, Water Ninjas head coach, in a news release. "This depth in our program promises a strong future for the club and ensures the legacy continues.”
The Water Ninjas are now preparing for provincials being hosted at Calgary's Seton YMCA, Apr. 4 to 6.
