A University of Saskatchewan men's hockey team with a local flare won bronze at the University Cup.

Their win over the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold earned the Huskies a medal at the national USport championship for the first time since 2016-17.

"No one is ever going to take that away from us [U Cup Bronze] and to be Canada West Champions, with that, it feels pretty good," said Huskies Head Coach and Swift Current native Brandin Cote to the U of S website. "[It's] not the ultimate feeling for sure, but we can take a lot of pride in our season, we had 29 wins in the regular season, playoffs, and U Cup, so I'd say that's a pretty good year and we're going to enjoy it. We're going to have that in our back pocket for as we move forward and I don't know if you can improve on that a whole lot, but we're going to try."

The team includes former Swift Current Broncos Ethan Regnier, Raphael Pelletier, Carter Stebbings, Cohner Saleski, and Swift Current native Mac Gross.

Pelletier and Stebbings had assists on the winning goal by Landon Kosior.

The host University of Ottawa Gee-Gees beat Concordia 3-2 in Ottawa to win the University Cup final.
