A Swift Current family has made a major contribution to the Southwest Facility Foundation.

Larry and Colleen Jensen and their family pledged $25,000 to the SWFF.

The funds go to support a potential future recreation facility in Swift Current.

"It means a great deal," said Betty McDougall of the SWFF Board of Directors. "It shows that our community really values the facility and the services we have here, and they want to continue to make sure everyone has access to premier facilities in Swift Current."

The foundation has raised over $3.9 million dollars so since October 2023.

"I think we've got terrific momentum," McDougall said. "Very grateful to everyone in our community who has also seen the value of our investment here."

After a recent provincial election and in the midst of a federal election, the donations can also serve as a message to higher levels of government.

"It just shows that we're not sitting back for funds to drop in our lap," McDougall said. "We need federal and provincial support to make this happen, but our city and our community is really enthusiastic about this and wants to show through their pledges and donations their commitment to make it happen."

The SWFF noted the City of Swift Current has submitted an application for the Canadian Green & Inclusive Community Buildings grant from the Federal Government which would be a percentage of the building cost.
