A 28-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested early on March 19, after police caught him providing false identification during a routine patrol.

At approximately 5:41 a.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP officers were patrolling 3rd Street NE when they observed a man on a bicycle. The officers stopped to speak with the cyclist, who appeared nervous and gave inconsistent information. After allowing the man to continue on his way, police continued investigating his identity.

Through further investigation, authorities determined the man had provided a false name. Police then located the suspect in the nearby area of Spruce Bay. The man, later identified as Drayden Paul, 28, of Winnipeg, was arrested for obstruction.

During the arrest, police discovered Paul had several outstanding warrants. A subsequent search revealed a weapon in his possession.

Paul now faces several charges, including:

  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • carrying a concealed weapon,
  • possession of a prohibited weapon, and
  • seven counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He remains in custody pending further proceedings.
