The federal election is underway, with the final voting day just over a month from now, as different parties are making their case to the public. For the southeast, there are a number of areas that could change drastically depending on which party comes into power.

Whoever does come out the winners could have a big impact on Estevan, with Mayor Tony Senrick hoping to see support for some of the projects that matter most.

"Obviously, we found out that Canada, we're relying too heavily on our southern neighbor. So we need to get our infrastructure projects going coast to coast. We need to become Canadian again. We need to get this country united and just get these projects going again.

Sernick says the past ten years have shown that the country hasn't grown the way it should, and it could be painful dealing with those consequences.

"It's catching up to us, and it's just going to create pain and chaos into the future here, so hopefully, whoever the new Prime Minister is, has the mandate to start bringing the country together and rebuild our infrastructure coast to coast."

So far most parties are just getting their first messages out, but one key part of that has been income tax decreases from some of the frontrunners.

Sernick is hoping to see some relief on that front.

"We'll take anything. Obviously the carbon tax is paused right now. So again, we'll take anything, if we can get less taxes, less government, that's what I'm all about for sure."

With just over a month to go, Sernick says he hopes that whichever party wins the election will put Canada first.
