The Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery is hosting a Motanka Doll workshop on Sunday, March 30.

A motanka is a traditional Ukrainian guardian doll that brings a symbol of prosperity, goodness, and hope to families. The first motanka dolls appeared 5,000 years ago.

Christy Schweiger, Education Coordinator for the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery, says there are two sessions happening on Sunday.

“The 10 o’clock until noon session is dedicated to youth ages 8 to 12 years. This is a simplified version that includes storytelling and other fun activities to engage a younger audience. The afternoon session from one to three o’clock is more advanced for teens and adults.”

To register for the Motanka Doll workshop, visit the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery website.

Other workshops on the schedule at the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery include Pysanky Ukrainian egg decorating on April 22, and an already sold-out Indigenous beading workshop on April 5.
