RCMP Vehicles on scene at an accident in Elm Creek

UPDATE: No serious injuries were reported after a collision Tuesday afternoon near Elm Creek at the junction of Highways 13 and 2. According to RCMP the two-vehicle collision between a pick-up and an SUV was reported at 1:15 p.m. and was responded to by Pembina Valley RCMP.

A 24-year-old male, from Souris, was driving north on Highway 13 when he turned left onto Highway 2 but was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The male had entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so.

The other driver, a 55-year-old female from Winnipeg, suffered minor injuries.

The 24-year-old was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Proceeding Before Safe to do so.

Correction - a story published Tuesday, March 25th on PortageOnline had a witness stating a semi-trailer was involved in the accident and more serious injuries were sustained. The semi-trailer on the scene was not involved in the accident in any way.

A witness of the aftermath has informed PortageOnline.com that a serious collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 13 and Red Coat trail in Elm Creek, Manitoba, at approximately 1:30 pm.

The collision involved a couple of vehicles with debris being strewn across Red Coat Trail.

Police, fire, and ambulance were all called to the scene.

There has been no confirmation as of yet from local authorities as to the extent of the damage, reason for the incident, or the status of the individual who was ejected from their vehicle.

A previous version of this story had a witness stating a semi-trailer was involved in the accident. The semi trailer on the scene was not involved in the accident in any way.
