The Glenbow Community Association (GCA) will hold its inaugural annual general meeting on Mar. 31 at the Cochrane Alliance Church, 902 Glenbow Dr. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting set to begin at 7 p.m.
Glenbow is home to several notable Cochrane landmarks, including the Cochrane Lions Event Centre, the Big Hill Creek riparian ecosystem, Glenbow Elementary School, and the Cochrane Alliance Church.
Originally situated on the town’s outskirts, Glenbow now sits at the heart of Cochrane as new neighbourhoods continue to expand around it. While its proximity to historic downtown Cochrane is an asset, the community of approximately 1,000 residences faces challenges related to aging infrastructure, shifting demographics, and evolving land use and transportation needs.
The newly formed GCA aims to follow best practices in community association governance, focusing on advocacy, engagement, enrichment, and consultation. Its priorities include:
-
Advocating for public works that benefit Glenbow while minimizing negative impacts on residents and the environment.
-
Collaborating with the Town of Cochrane and other organizations to achieve common goals.
-
Enhancing the neighbourhood through community events and programs.
-
Representing resident concerns and consulting on public issues through appropriate channels.
-
Upholding values of advocacy, inclusiveness, diversity, respect, and accountability.
Brian Winter, interim vice-chair and a Glenbow resident of more than 40 years, is encouraging all landowners and tenants to participate in the association.
“Our association will provide regular, proactive communication on community matters while fostering connections among neighbours,” said Winter. “This will enhance safety, reduce conflicts, and create opportunities for involvement, volunteerism, networking, and fun.”
The GCA will serve as a unified voice for Glenbow residents, helping influence local policies, community programs, and environmental sustainability efforts.
Memberships will be available digitally at the meeting for $20 per family, with all proceeds reinvested into the community.
