The southeast is getting ready for what will be a big system coming through later this week, bringing precipitation across the province. That's expected to hit on Thursday, with more western areas seeing that earlier as the southeast expects that for the evening.

Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shelley talks about the system and how it'll be snowing north of Regina, but the southeast will see a different system.

"The second start with this system will be some mixed precipitation that will fall on Thursday. It looks like we could see a band of freezing rain set up along the southern extent of that snow area. Right now the the main threat area for that freezing rain is likely going to be somewhere between the Yellowhead and Trans Canada corridors, and SE approaching the Estevan area."

A few remnant snowflakes will remain from that system set to hit on Friday, with Shelley saying that it'll be less substantial.

"While it's certainly possible that the Austin area will see some snowfall associated with this system, likely Thursday afternoon and into the evening, the heaviest precipitation will be falling further to the north. That being said, Thursday night and into Friday morning, the system will be tracking farther east. So there will be a continued slight risk of freezing precipitation, but then we will see some light snow falling into Friday morning, but accumulations likely in the Estevan area won't exceed 5 centimeters at most."

The winter weather won't stop at just precipitation as we're expected to feel negative temperatures roll into the southeast following that system.

Shelley says that a bit of warmth will come back to start off next week as April begins.

With some freezing precipitation and frosty temperatures, Shelley reminds people to be on the lookout for icy conditions, especially if they're travelling.

"There is a chance we'll see some freezing rain warnings in other portions of Southern Saskatchewan, but Thursday and into Friday morning will likely be a day with poor travel conditions over many parts of the province, so if you have any travel plans, you may want to consider postponing those or rescheduling."
