Carlton Trail College administers the program on BHP’s behalf.
The scholarship program was created to help students with their post-secondary education and employment opportunities.
Since 2012, BHP has handed out over $852,000 in scholarships. Last year, $122,500 was awarded to students in 30 regional communities and six First Nations. In 2024, the program was expanded to include communities close to the Jansen Mine Project.
“This is a very exciting time for the province of Saskatchewan, with several projects, like BHP’s Jansen potash mine driving economic growth. At Jansen alone, our operational workforce will require about 900 people. The opportunity for people of all backgrounds to build a meaningful and rewarding career in mining is immense – and access to education and training for local and First Nations communities helps open the door,” said Graham Reynolds, General Manager of Operational Readiness, BHP.
"As an educational partner, we are pleased to continue supporting regional students in accessing further education and training through BHP’s scholarship program," said Amy Yeager, Carlton Trail College President and CEO. "This partnership is a great opportunity to invest in the future of students, while helping to build skilled workers for the future.”
