A dozen competitors will be vying for the title of Alberta's Strongest Man today (March 29), in Red Deer County at Fire and Flood Emergency Services in Belich Business Park.
Event organizer Larson Hehr is also one of the participants.
"This will be the first year of Alberta's Strongest Man, at least for a pro show," he explained. "There have been amateur shows before which, in the world of strongman, to become a professional, you have to at least come in top three in the country on the amateur stage."
Hehr is the ninth strongest man in Canada and fourth strongest in the West. Also competing will be Tristan Hoath of Edmonton, the fifth strongest man in the world.
The first competition gets underway at 10:30 a.m., with doors opening at 10 a.m.
Events include Press Medley, Side Handle Car Deadlift, Keg Toss, Yolk to Frame Medley, Crucifix Hold, and Natural Stone Load.
Admission is by donation in support of Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre.
"Basically, make it a free event, but what we are asking the good folks of Central Alberta is if they would consider giving a donation and we would pass that along to Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre and help them out with all the good work they do," noted co-organizer Nick Ris.
