Carnie's Comments
I went back to school yesterday. Seriously.
I was a guest speaker at my alma mater, Central Collegiate Institute in Moose Jaw where they have a Communications and Media class.
I shared some audio with the kids so they could hear what you hear every day when you tune in. I let them in on some of the tricks of the trade and entertained them with stories about the contests we have, the interesting people I get to talk to and the music we play.
I played them a quick clip of Burton Cummings. You may have heard it. It's the one where he says "Hi, I'm Burton Cummings and you're listening to Rob Carnie in the Morning on Golden West Radio".
One of the kids said, "He lives on my street!"
Her classmates were impressed.
What's more? When I asked the students to raise their hands if they listen to the radio, just about everybody did.
I thanked them for that and told them I was encouraged because, without listeners, I wouldn't have a job, and I don't know how to do anything else.
They thought that was funny.
I wasn't really joking.
