Teen driver arrested after collision in Portage

Last week, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of 8th Ave. W and 9th St. NW. The incident, which was reported to the RCMP around 4:00 pm on March 19th, stated a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, and led to the crash.

Several occupants of the offending vehicle fled immediately after the collision. However, the driver, a 15-year-old resident, returned to the scene shortly after and was promptly arrested by the RCMP for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Officers noted the young driver smelled strongly of marijuana and his behavior further suggested impairment. This led to additional charges of Operating a Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs. 

This incident shows the dangers and legal repercussions associated with driving under the influence of drugs. The young driver has been released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
