About a week ago, Portage la Prairie RCMP officers were conducting routine patrols when they noticed a vehicle with a malfunctioning headlight. The officers initiated a traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. However, the situation quickly escalated beyond a simple vehicle inspection.
During their interaction with the five occupants of the vehicle, the officers observed a can of bear spray in plain sight. This discovery prompted the arrest of all five individuals. As the officers conducted a thorough search of the suspects, they uncovered additional weapons, and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
The five suspects now face serious charges related to weapons possession and drug trafficking and were released to appear in court at a later date.
