It's looking like a good portion of the province will see winter return this week.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement, warning of Old Man Winter's return to a large swath of Alberta and Western Canada.

The area experiencing an early spring snowstorm is from Grande Prairie in the north to Calgary in the south, and stretching across the province east to west.

Environment Canada has also included the Rockies to the west of Diamond Valley in the Weather Statement as well, as heavy wet snow will begin tonight over parts of western Alberta, but that's the closest it will come to Foothills County.

The snow will intensify across central Alberta on Thursday morning, and the central and southern areas of Alberta could experience rain mixed with freezing rain before it turns into snow.

Central Alberta is expected to receive up to 20 cm of snow by Friday morning, but the Rockies and west-central Alberta could see up to 25 cm of snow by then.

Environment Canada says that given the warm temperatures this week has seen, and with the uncertainty of how fast snow will fall in the area, their confidence in these total snowfall accumulations in moderate, so we could not get quite that much snow.
