South Central Regional Library marked its diamond anniversary with a dazzling Quiz Night that drew 27 teams and the enthusiastic support of the community. Held at the Access Event Centre, the event combined fun, fundraising, and celebration for the library’s 60th year of service.

Dressed to impress

Marketing Manager for the event, Heidi Friesen, shared her excitement about the evening, describing it as "monumental" and a perfect way to engage the community. “People dressed to the nines for our formal theme,” she said. Glitter, sparkle, and even cultural attire from around the world were part of the evening’s charm, adding a festive atmosphere to the proceedings.

Fun and games

The event featured a quizmaster from Winnipeg, who brought the energy with lively music, engaging trivia, and interactive games. Highlights included a fast-paced card game that got participants running across the room and a true or false game that kept everyone on their toes. Winners walked away with fun prizes, including chocolates and unique library merchandise like socks that read, “Go away, I’m reading.” Beyond the games, a glittering photo booth with props like feather boas and mustaches captured the memories of the night.

Fundraising for a cause

Friesen explained that the event was both a celebration and a fundraiser, with proceeds going toward special projects at the library’s five branches. Plans include a reading garden in Miami, a coffee corner in Winkler, and an expanded library desk in Altona, among others. “These improvements might seem small, but they make a huge difference in how patrons experience the library,” said Friesen.

Community spirit shines bright

Friesen emphasized the importance of community support, saying, “It fills our hearts with warmth to see so many people come out, not just financially but also morally and emotionally. It’s exciting to know we have their backing as we move forward with future projects.”

The celebration doesn’t end here. South Central Regional Library is launching a raffle next week, with the grand prize being VIA Rail vouchers for an unforgettable train trip. The raffle will raise further funds to support the library's growth and services. For more information on upcoming events and the library’s 60th-anniversary projects, visit their website.
