Between March 10th and 24th, the Morden Police Service issued a total of six tickets to motorists who failed to stop at a stop sign.

Hearing from citizens

Police Chief Brad Neduzak says the matter is one the service hears about from the community.

“We get complaints all the time about people not coming to complete stops at stop signs and rolling through them and thinking that they don't need to come to a stop,” he says.

“We ask that [drivers] come to a reasonable stop and continue on when safe to do so, but we are finding that quite a few [people] are actually travelling through without even applying the brakes.”

Increased police presence

Chief Neduzak says the Morden Police Service is “monitoring” stop signs as a result. The practice is also a part of the service’s participation in the Manitoba Public Insurance Enhanced Traffic Enforcement program, which strives to protect the roadways.

“We will be out there and continue to be out there to enforce those laws and many others,” says the police chief.
