The Innisfail Eagles' 2024/25 season is officially over.

The North Central Hockey League champions were scheduled to participate in the provincial tournament in Lethbridge next week, however due to low participation, that tournament has been cancelled.

"A difficult decision has been made to cancel the 2024-25 Hockey Alberta Sr. AA Provincials, originally scheduled for April 3-6 in Lethbridge," stated Hockey Alberta in a Facebook post. "With only three teams committed from two leagues, the tournament was no longer viable or truly representative of a provincial championship. We appreciate the dedication of all teams, organizers, and supporters, and we look forward to future opportunities to showcase Sr. AA hockey in Alberta."

The Eagles captured the Vanberg Cup in their first season in the league, beating Lacombe in five games.

"It's really special to be able to come into the league and capture the championship in our first year," said head coach and GM Ryan Dodd. "There's a lot of great teams, the league's very well run, so that makes it a lot more special when you're able to come into something so established as the NCHL with good people around it and great teams, great players, and you're able to walk away with a championship. Our dressing room and our players are just such a great group of guys to be around."

The Eagles will be hosting an awards banquet on April 25 at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion starting at 5:45 p.m.

2024/25 Champions:

  • East Central Alberta Hockey League – Sedgewick Sabres
  • Sask Alta Hockey League – Paradise Hills Hawks
  • North Central Hockey League – Innisfail Eagles
  • Ranchland Hockey League – Lethbridge Lightning
  • North Peace Hockey League – Falher Pirates
