Last week's People Helping People Radiothon raised over $100,000 in support of Central Plains Cancer Services (CPCS), but this week, it is quite probable that someone needed the services they provide. And as always, they stepped up to help.

One of the folks who has stepped up with them for over a decade is Larry Novak on Neepawa, who has been driving Cancer Patients to their appointments for almost 15 years.

Novak says he got started shortly after transitioning to his life after his career in the medical field.

"Well, at that time, I was retired from my lab and x-ray position here in Neepawa, and I had lots of time on my hands. And I like driving, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to help people and drive like I always wanted to do. And it's been fun."

He adds that his work has taken him on trips away from home, both East and West.

"I would say more trips to Winnipeg, but since I've started driving, Brandon has opened a centre now, so I've taken people there. But mostly trips to Winnipeg."

Novak adds that the experience gives him a chance to help his community and people who are in need, which is what he wants.

"I just love to help the people, and they appreciate it, so it's great to see that. And being in the medical business or service over the years, I know that when people are not well, they have issues, and they love to be helped out. And I find that this is one way to do it."
