The Estevan Toastmasters club is opening its doors to the community with a special event on Tuesday evening. As part of their open house, the group will welcome local author and retired teacher Betty McGillivray as a guest speaker.
Toastmasters representative Jason Weening joined the SUN 102 morning show to share details about the event.
"We have Betty McGillivray coming on Tuesday night to our open house. She has written a book filled with funny stories about her experiences as a teacher, and we are excited to have her as our special guest," said Weening. "It's a great opportunity for the community to come together, hear from her, and also learn more about what Toastmasters has to offer."
Toastmasters is an international organization that helps members develop their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills. The Estevan club meets weekly, providing a space for individuals to practice and refine these abilities.
"One of the key skills in the professional world today is public speaking," Weening explained. "We are actively looking for new members who want to improve their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills—especially young professionals who are just coming out of college or university and starting their careers. If you can become a great public speaker and a strong communicator, that will go a long way in shaping your future success."
The open house will take place at the Southeast Tech Hub, located behind Affinity Credit Union in downtown Estevan. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free to attend.
