This is the meeting to attend if you want to know about the state of the watershed in the greater Cochrane area.
For the first time, the Bighill Creek Preservation Society (BCPS) has prepared a comprehensive State of the Watershed report informed by current and extensive data on watersheds in the area, including Jumpingpound, Waiparous, and Ghost.
It's being presented on Apr. 12 as part of the society's annual general meeting at the Seniors on the Bow, upstairs in the SLS Centre.
Besides data on the riparian, waterlife, environmental DNA, and marine vertebrate, it takes into account factors like industrial activity, such as aggregate mines, and the rapid population growth in Cochrane.
"All of those things are recognized as potentially negative impacts on the watershed, and those are things the State of the Watershed report will identify and attempt to address," explains BCPS president Gerry Bietz.
"It's the equivalent of going to see your doctor for your annual medical. We know you've got a warp on your back, but we think it's benign, and we're not going to do anything about it, or maybe it's something we should investigate further. That's what the watershed report is supposed to do."
The meeting starts at 2 p.m. People are welcome to attend specifically to hear the report or stay for the entire meeting.
