The United Way Estevan held its annual general meeting last night, taking the time to introduce some of its members moving into new positions and those moving out of those positions.
The meeting also saw some finances being looked at, with United Way Estevan receiving $437,713 in donations in 2024. That's down from the $514,857 in revenues in 2023, but as $123,918 was from a one-time grant, overall donations to the United Way Estevan and Allocations to member agencies were up compared to 2023.
The meeting also included the naming of a new president, with Brittany Brokenshire taking over the position from Mark Pettitt.
Pettitt, who was a speaker at the AGM, talked about some of the work done over the year.
"What can you say to a community like Estevan other than thank you and we did it? We did such a great job this year. We came to raise money at the telethon for our member agencies and our Community Impact Partners, and boy, did we raise some money this year."
He thanked all of the donors who helped to bring in the money for the year, the volunteers who helped make their events possible, and all of the board members who helped to organize the year.
Brokenshire also spoke during the AGM, talking about what she hopes to achieve as the new president.
"It's a beautiful thing to see a group of community-minded folks all together in one room. I want to send a huge thank you to Mark, you were a wonderful mentor for me this year and we've got some big shoes to fill with the highest on-air total in United Way Estevan history, so I feel up for the challenge."
Brokenshire talked about growing up in Estevan and seeing all of the good the United Way does, inspiring her to be a part of giving back to the community.
She also thanked the member agencies and community impact partners for helping out and inspiring change, saying that she'll put all the effort she can in 2025.
"I can't wait for the year ahead, and I'll throw my whole heart into continuing to make a difference for our community."
Also at the AGM, United Way Estevan held their election of officers, with other community members being named to positions in the organization. This included:
- Lynn Trobert - Treasurer
- Rebecca Foord - Second Vice President
- Lynn Trobert and Larry Elash - First Vice President
- Mark Pettitt - Past-President
