Items are pouring into the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 47 in Weyburn for their Huge Indoor Garage Sale. From furniture and household items to clothing and anything else one can imagine, there will be something for everyone at this event, coming up on April 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

They still have room for more items, though, so anyone wanting to purge unwanted items after a spring cleaning does not have to wait for summer to host a garage sale.

Board Member Jerry Ponto said items can be dropped off at the Legion in advance.

"Or if it's a big, heavy item, they can certainly call our office at 306-842-4258 and we can arrange for pickup. Otherwise, items can just be left at the front door at the branch and we'll get them into the sale and raise some much-needed funds for the local Legion."

He said this kind of event may even be a good motivation to tackle those catch-all areas and over-filled storage rooms.

"Sometimes we just need a reason to clean up our spaces and this is as good a reason it's any because the funds go to a great cause and we have a little fun with it as well."

While the Legion does have some paid staff on hand, volunteers handle the garage sale, which is an annual event.

"The branch has done it for quite a number of years and it continues to be quite successful. Oftentimes there are some very interesting items there. It's the old story, 'one man's junk is another person's treasure', so we encourage all the treasure-hunters and all the garage sale people to come and support the sale and buy items, but as well, to drop off gently used items that we can put for sale in the in the garage sale."

He noted it's not everyone's wheelhouse to sell items on Marketplace or organize a sale of their own.

"This just is such an easy, convenient way for people to donate to the Legion. It's a non-monetary thing because oftentimes you have something sitting around that you're not using and it might as well be put to use in someone else's hands."

While some bigger items will be firmly priced, many items are priced as a suggestion.

"Not to say that we don't turn down offers. We certainly do that as well. There are price groupings, but like I say, there's some I guess very high-quality items that should bring a particular amount of money."

The group of sturdy armchairs (shown below), which are from the Legion Lounge, are also being sold for $10 each at the sale.
