The weather most of Alberta has been experiencing has caused some traffic issues.
According to the Alberta RCMP, they responded to 147 motor vehicle collisions across the province on Thursday, March 27, but luckily there were no fatalities,
Even though it is technically Spring, snow storms this time of year are still common, so the RCMP are asking drivers to continue to drive safely.
The weather is still affecting road conditions, as a transport truck blocked the eastbound lane of Highway 1 between Banff and Canmore, leading to a highway closure on Friday morning.
Earlier this week, Environment Canada issued a Snowfall Warning for much of the province, which is what caused the poor road conditions drivers are experiencing.
To help remain safe while driving in snowy conditions, the RCMP advise drivers to keep all windows, side mirrors and lights properly cleared of snow, reduce speed, give themselves more time to slow down, plan extra time to travel to your destination, listen to the radio or check 511 Alberta for updated weather and road reports, turn of headlights to make sure others can see you, and be prepared for changing road and weather conditions.
The RCMP is also recommending people pack blankets or a winter survival kit, especially when heading out of town.
Some areas around Calgary are expected to get upwards of 25 centimetres of snow before the clouds pass over, whereas areas north of Calgary can expect upwards of 35 cm of snowfall.
