Thanks to a Community Fund Grant from the Weyburn Credit Union in 2024, the Special Olympics Weyburn Bowling team now has their new bowling shirts.

Community Manager Jo-Ann Paxman said they ordered the shirts through a Weyburn company, Completely Branded.

"They were excellent help. So thank you Completely Branded for all your help and assistance and guidance," she shared. "We knew the logo, we knew the design, and the colour was a bit of a process. We've always had green and there was a bit of discussion on changing colours. We just ended up going with green again."

She said the shirts are for competitions, and there isn't a shirt for every athlete due to limited numbers in certain sizes.

Paxman noted most of the team on Tuesday put every shirt on for a group photo.

"They had a lot of fun with it. They love the shirts."

The bowling team meets Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at Super Bowl, with cheering spectators welcome. However, they'll be doing a wrap-up event on April 9th at the Weyburn Public Library as they are nearing the end of their season. Some of the bowlers still have competitions to attend - six will be going to Estevan in April and 10 will be headed to Saskatoon in May.

"We try to get all the athletes a chance to attend tournaments so we have kind of rotation list. It takes sometimes a while for some to attend because the list is big but our tournaments are small."

As for accessing a CF grant this year, Paxman said they won't need to do so, and want to ensure the funds are available for another non-profit.

"I recommend that anyone that is a nonprofit organization apply for a Credit Union Community Grant, it was amazing and the application process was very easy," she noted. "I'd like to thank the Weyburn Credit Union for sending this grant out and and helping out the nonprofit organizations, it's a huge help."
