It's going to be a difficult trek with travelling throughout the rest of the day and into the weekend.
Snowfall began yesterday and has carried over into today, creating slippery conditions on the roads along with reduced visibility.
Environment Canada’s Stephen Berg says the snowfall will ease later tonight.
“Going to keep getting light snow with the potential of a light freezing drizzle as well today through the evening before tapering off overnight.”
He also noted winds could reach 50 km/h, potentially causing some blowing snow.
Caution should be used for travelling. As of Friday afternoon, according to the Highway Hotline, travel is not recommended on Highway 5 between the Junction of Highway 2 and Watson.
Travel is also not recommended on Highway 2, south of Highway 5 Junction to Liberty. Travel is also not recommended for Highway 365 to Watrous.
A stretch of Highway 11 between Dundurn and Davidson has also received a Travel Not Recommended advisory. There are reports of vehicle collisions near Hanley and as well south of Kenaston.
Saskatchewan RCMP is advising caution if you’re planning to travel today or into the weekend. As of 10:00 am this morning, during a 24-hour span, they received reports of 80 related traffic incidents including 38 collisions throughout the province.
“There’s lots going on in the province this weekend, from kids’ sports tournaments to the world men’s curling championship kicking off in Moose Jaw,” says Supt. Grant St. Germaine, officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services. “Whatever your plans are this weekend, if they involve potential travel, make safe decisions. Stay home if it’s dangerous. Drive to road conditions. I’ve been out patrolling this morning and I’ve seen many motorists driving way too fast for the terrible road conditions – even if they were below the speed limit. Don’t be that person that jeopardizes the safety of those in your vehicle and others on the road.”
Once the snowfall eases up, colder temperatures will settle in for the weekend. With the windchill, it will feel like –20 °C. It will likely be the middle of next week, before the temperature rises above the zero mark.
