Another busy month for Lanigan Town Council as they get set to represent themselves at the upcoming Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention from April 13th to 16th in Saskatoon.
That means the upcoming regular council meeting on April 14 will be cancelled as will the scheduled April 28 meeting due to the federal election. A release from the town of Lanigan notes the regular City Council meeting will be held on April 21st in lieu.
The council continues to prepare for further growth in Lanigan. At its last meeting, it gave reading to three land use bylaw amendments for the purpose of expansion and development. Two of the amendments concern a parcel of land that's approximately 47 acres in size proposed for acreage and large lot development. The remaining bylaw amendment proposes to remove a requirement for a 3 metre corner side yard setback for new dwellings. Public hearings will occur on the bylaw amendments.
With the end of the 2024-2025 arena season, the town has turned its focus to the new water slide project to be completed and commissioned by May 31 with swimming pool operations set to officially start on June 1.
The town also updated its daycare facility project. Their release notes the request for proposals has been issued to Sask Tenders with the closing date of April 16, 2025, and a targeted start date of June 2025.
As well, the old swimming pool and tennis court structures are slated for demolition to allow for the start of the new daycare facility.
As noted, the next regular council meeting is scheduled for Monday April 21 at 7:00 PM in council chambers at the town office.
