The Cochrane Public Library is in the middle of its Grow a Reader Campaign, a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting library programming and events. Running until April 6, the campaign is part of Library Giving Day, a national movement celebrating the essential role libraries play in communities.
“This year, we’re raising money that will go directly toward library programs,” said Carmen Erison, Program and Engagement Manager at the Cochrane Public Library.
“We’re incredibly thankful for the support we’ve received from our Town Council, but we know that our library is smaller than what our growing community needs.”
To continue hosting large-scale events, such as the Wild West Carnival and Edible Book Day, the library requires additional funding for things like fire safety plans and restroom facilities.
“In honour of our 75th anniversary, we’ve set a goal of $7,500, a number we think is very achievable,” Erison said.
Last year, the campaign raised just over $4,600, and this year, the library is encouraging the community to help reach the new milestone.

Donations can be made in person at the library or online through Canada Helps. Donors can also purchase a decorative item for a tree display at the library, with donation tiers ranging from $5 to $1,000.
“Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact on our ability to serve the community,” Erison added.
