Marcellus Norbert Haeusler
July 24, 1926 – March 26, 2025

The death of Marcellus ‘Sally’ Norbert Haeusler occurred on March 26, 2025, at Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, Saskatchewan, with his family by his side. He was 98 years of age. Sally was born to Martin and Josephine (née Strueby) Haeusler, on July 24, 1926, on the family farm. He went to school at Blume School near Marysburg, SK. After he completed his schooling, he worked at sawmills in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, before coming back to the farm. On October 15, 1952, Sally married Margaret ‘Margy’ Meyer at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, SK. They moved a house onto the Haeusler family farm and soon after started a family of their own, which included five sons and one daughter. Sally raised livestock and farmed with his brothers, George, Wilfred and cousin Quirin Strueby. The farm provided a means to feed the growing family, and it kept everyone busy. Sally’s interests included curling, dancing, cards, social gatherings and hunting (but not shooting). In those days, he could often be found collecting at the gates, score keeping and helping manage various hockey and ball teams. One of Sally’s greatest joys was watching sports that his kids were involved in, then later his grandkids and even some of the great- grandkids. Sally and Margy retired to Humboldt, SK, in 1993 to a house built with his family. In retirement he would sell Christmas trees at the mall or drive for Ford, picking up and delivering vehicles throughout Western Canada. Following Margy's passing, Sally relocated to Caleb Village in 2014, where he often could be found walking, making many miles around the building, no matter the weather. There were times he would be seen as early as 4:00 a.m. making his rounds. While living at Caleb, Sally made many new friends and the various activities there helped fill his days. In January of 2022, Sally made his final move to Bethany Pioneer Village in Middle Lake where he remained until his passing. The visits from family and friends were the highlight of his days, and trips to Humboldt for A&W onion rings were always a special treat. Picking berries around the facility and trips down to the lake with family were other past times he enjoyed. The new great grandbabies were very special to Sally, and they could bring a smile to his face any time.
