Our petition to relocate Tyra, the world’s largest T-Rex, to Cochrane has sparked conversation and curiosity, garnering almost 350 signatures.

While many are excited about the idea of bringing this iconic attraction to our town, Cochrane Mayor Jeff Genung has weighed in with his perspective.

"I don't know, out of all the priorities that are coming across my desk right now, I think I would be run out of town if I made a dinosaur one of them."

You can listen to the full interview with Mayor Genung below.

Last week, the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce announced that Tyra, the World’s Largest Dinosaur, along with its adjoining gift shop and visitor information centre, will close at the end of the current lease term in December 2029.

Sign the petition to save Tyra the T-Rex from being eulogized in 2029: Relocate her to Cochrane

Tyra has been a significant symbol of Drumheller’s rich connection to dinosaur history and tourism since her construction in 2000. Standing at 25 metres tall and weighing 65 tonnes—more than four times the size of a real Tyrannosaurus rex—she has attracted approximately 150,000 visitors annually.

The closure of Tyra in 2029 marks the end of an era for Drumheller, but also opens the door for discussions about her future and the potential for relocation to continue inspiring and educating visitors about our prehistoric past.
