The Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of trespassers at the Weyburn City Centre Mall late Saturday night. Officers arrived to find two teenagers inside the building. Deputy Police Chief Shane St. John says they were charged with trespassing.
“I'm not sure how they got into the mall, but they did. There was no damage so no mischief charges but they were in the mall. There's no reason to be in the mall, so they were actually given tickets there with an offense of trespassing and there's a voluntary payment on that. So it's not criminal code Trespassing it is the Provincial Act.”
He stresses that the mall is not in operation and therefore is closed to the public, warning more serious charges can apply.
"There's no reason to go in there, stay out of there. There's nothing in there to be seen or to do."
“We didn't go to that level with these with these youth, but if it continues you could be charged with break-and-entering which is a lot more serious than then what the discretion was on the police officers that that night.”
The parents of the youth were notified of the charges.
