Spring is a time of renewal and a time to revel in the seasonal traditions that come with shedding off a long, cold winter. One of those traditions is celebrating some spring music with St. Peter’s Chorus and its annual spring concert coming up this Sunday, April 6 at St. Augustine Church starting at 2:30 pm.
As with the Easter season concert again this year, the theme will follow a spring motif with some ecumenical numbers, says chorus director Maxine Moore.
“It’s definitely music for spring. We’re celebrating nature and music, both secular and sacred. We’ve got familiar songs like “In the Garden” and “You Raise Me Up,” and of course “Prayer for Ukraine” in Ukrainian.”
In addition to the vocals, mainstay musical contributors Dale Avison on clarinet and Michelle Ackerman on flute will be on hand. Cellist Terry Sturge is a featured guest who will perform both accompaniment and solo. He’ll also be performing duets with Robert Dick and with Moore, as well as a solo feature by Rachmaninoff
“He’s a professional cellist and no stranger to Humboldt,” says Moore. “He used to teach the string program for the orchestra out here. He’s played with symphonies, ensembles and his highlight with the Amati String Quartet playing instruments from the 1600s.”
