Women making a difference in their workplaces, communities, and industries were celebrated Wednesday as the nominees for the Southeast Saskatchewan Women of Distinction Awards were announced at a high tea luncheon.
This year’s theme, Lesson in Leadership, was introduced by Becky Cassidy, chairperson of the awards. She emphasized that leadership is about setting boundaries and recognizing that people cannot pour from an empty cup.
"Today begins with radical self-respect, with allowing ourselves to rest, to ask for help, to say no," Cassidy said. "When we care for ourselves—not perfectly, but consistently—we lead better, we love deeper, and we last longer."
She encouraged attendees to embrace intentional leadership and break free from the pressure to do it all. "Here’s to those learning to set boundaries and let go of guilt. Let’s break the glass—not to reflection, but to recognizing when we’ve given enough."
Cassidy noted that leadership exists in all aspects of life. "Women are always leaders—whether in their homes, communities, businesses, or teams. We wanted to shine a light on their importance."

Tania Andrist, awards and nominations chair, acknowledged the importance of those who submitted nominations, thanking both women and men for recognizing the nominees.
Once nominations closed, the committee created digital portfolios, which were sent to an impartial panel outside the community for adjudication. "The decisions are difficult, especially with so many strong candidates," Andrist said.
You can find the portfolios here.
Funds raised during the event will support scholarships for young women, including $2,000 for the Young Visionary Award and additional scholarships for nominees.
Cassidy closed the event by celebrating the nominees' leadership. "Being in the arena isn’t easy—it’s vulnerable, brave, and powerful. Every woman here is proof of that. Keep believing, leading, and shining your light."
The nominees will be honoured at the main event on May 2. Tickets go on sale April 10.
