Boyd Leslie Henderson
June 22, 1940 – April 1, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Boyd Leslie Henderson announces that he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 1, 2025, at the Humboldt District Hospital. He was 84 years of age.
Boyd was born in Kerrobert, SK, the third child to Cyril Lawrence (Buck) and Mildred (nee Daley) Henderson. He grew up in Wilkie, SK, with his brother Alvin and sister Noreen.
Boyd started his career in the banking and insurance industry working for RBC Royal Bank in Wilkie, SK. His career with the bank would see Boyd and his family make their home all over the province of Saskatchewan including Cabri, Prince Albert, Melville, Wawota, Regina and, eventually Humboldt, where he rose to the position of Branch Manager.
Boyd married the love of his life, Irene (nee Tellier) on December 28, 1963, in Scott, SK. While frequently moving all over the province, they raised their three children, Parker, Maureen and Jill.
After 20 years with the RBC, Boyd became a partner at Hagerty Agencies, a well-respected and established insurance agency in Humboldt. Boyd loved working and continued working in the insurance industry until the age of 82, when he retired from Accent Insurance Services.
Boyd was an old school guy who appreciated old-school values. Boyd did not view his success based on his individual achievements, but rather by how he served the people in his community. These values drove Boyd to become highly involved in his community sacrificing his time for the betterment of others. This was demonstrated by his strong commitment to the community of Humboldt and area. Boyd enjoyed living with the people in his community, getting to know them, recognizing his neighbors, and being a part of their lives.
Boyd was a member of the original Humboldt Swimming Pool Committee, the Humboldt Uniplex Founding Committee, the Humboldt Lions Club, the Humboldt Bronco Board, the Humboldt Golf Club Board, the Humboldt Water Tower Committee, as well as treasurer of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, trustee of the Humboldt Collegiate Institute School Board, councillor of Humboldt City Council, and a long time volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
His most cherished accomplishment was the family that he raised with Irene. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved being surrounded by his family.
Boyd will be dearly missed by his loving wife Irene (nee Tellier), three children; son Parker (Bosha) Henderson, daughter Maureen Johnson (nee Henderson), and his daughter Jill (Colin) McKinnon (nee Henderson); six grandchildren: Amanda (Jeremy) Swystun, Taylor Johnson, Ashton Johnson, Miranda Henderson, Jack Henderson and Emma McKinnon, as well as his great grandson Bennett Swystun. He is also mourned by his former daughter-in-law Audrey Henderson and son-in-law Tom Johnson.
Boyd was predeceased by his parents, Buck and Mildred (nee Daley) Henderson; brother Alvin Henderson; and sister Noreen Afseth (nee Henderson).
A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation – General Equipment Fund (P.O. Box 1740 Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0).
