It's been a chilly start to April with temperatures perched near zero and some snow falling at times, but Environment Canada's latest forecast is showing it'll feel more like spring soon.

While we've still got a couple more days of cold to go, Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg says it'll be smoother once the weekend's here.

"Once Saturday starts up, it gets closer to normal, and then early next week, things look to be anywhere around five degrees above normal, so it looks to be quite pleasant for next week."

Temperatures will drop on Monday as we see an unsettled system come in, but after that, we'll feel that warmth in the air.

First, with that cold, we'll have to get through a bit of precipitation that will bring in the warmth.

"There's still a bit of potential for some flurries today, tonight, and then to Friday, into kind of Friday overnight. A little bit less likely for that period, but with the departure of this high-pressure system that would be bringing the cooler temperatures, there's a bit of a warm push from the west that they'll be in for next week."

While temperatures will be soaring over the next few days, Berg reminds people that some overnight temperatures will dip into the negatives, likely forming ice in the morning if that precipitation does fall.

"That might give some freeze-thaw issues with some of the snow melt, it might end up getting some pooling on surfaces, and then overnight some ice developing and might get a bit slippery in places."

Berg reminds people to watch the forecast for any storm systems coming through that could potentially cause black ice and hamper travel across Saskatchewan.
