The open water angling season is fast approaching and as such, the newest edition of the Saskatchewan Anglers Guide is now available for viewing or download online now.

As the go to reference for the anglers in the province, the guide provides a convenient reference for regulations and practices, ensuring all those enjoying the sport do so within compliance of all applicable laws. Also included is a listing of waterbodies complete with specific catch limits, special regulations, important information regarding catch-and-release practices, and tips for how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Printed copies of the guide will become available in early May and can be found at Government of Saskatchewan field offices, most provincial parks, and select retail outlets upon release.

"The new Anglers Guide is one sign of spring in Saskatchewan that so many of us look forward to," Environment Minister Travis Keisig said in an official release.

"It is also an important way that anglers can make sure they are up to date on the rules and regulations before heading out to experience our world-class fishing opportunities."

The season opening dates vary by location, with the new angling season opening May 5 in the southern management zone (which encompasses all areas south of Highway 55), May 15 in the central management zone, and May 25 in the northern portion of the province.

Anyone over the age of 16 looking to enjoy Saskatchewan's angling opportunities must purchase a license to do so, except for the province's seniors aged 65 or older. Canadian Armed Forces veterans, both Saskatchewan and Canadian resident are eligible for free angling licenses upon verification. Angling licenses are available online at any time and can be stored on digital devices.

Residents and visitors may fish without a license in provincial waterbodies outside of national parks during the two Free Fishing Weekends: July 12-13, 2025, and February 14-16, 2026. All other regulations still apply during those weekends, including possession limits and reduced limits on some waterbodies.
