The R.M. of Weyburn No. 67 council met this morning. On the agenda were a number of matters relating to the Seven Stars Energy Project.

Beginning with statements from two R.M. residents outlining their concerns and disproval of the project. The first including a petition with over fifty signatures, and topics addressed include disruptions to the landscape, environmental and wildlife concerns, and potential decreases in property value.

The second focused on the importance of transparency and following right decision making procedure.

A separate matter discussed involves a letter being sent to the provincial government. This following MLA Jeremy Harrison expressed his support for the project in a meeting with R.M. Councillors. They are asking the provincial government to publicly express this view.

The letter was sent to be reviewed by the R.M. of Griffin No. 66 who will also be impacted by the project. However, it was responded to with a letter of opposing view. Council moved their letter be sent independently by Wednesday, with plans to reach out to the Griffin R.M. before this time.

The meeting also saw the first reading of an amendment to the turbine height restriction bylaw.  This requested by Enbridge on the grounds that the current restrictions are not up to date with the standard height of modern wind turbines. The motion was passed with a second reading to be held following a public hearing.
