As of April 1, the Town of Blackfalds’ recycling program will be managed by the not-for-profit organization Circular Materials.

The Town’s service provider, E360 Solutions, will remain the same.

The move to Circular Materials was approved by council during the August 27 regular council meeting.

The change to the recycling program is a result of the Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation, as per the Government of Alberta. This regulation shifts the financial, operational, and marketing responsibility for recycling from municipalities to the organizations that produce and sell packaging and paper.

Circular Materials is the organization responsible for implementing and managing the recycling system in Alberta on behalf of the producers and the province. A recycling mobile app will be launched on April 1, which will feature recycling collection schedules, a materials search, service alerts, and more.

For residents, the only real change will be the line of communication, as complaints will now be the responsibility of the service provider, E360.

For any concerns or complaints regarding both recycling curbside pick-up and waste and yard waste curbside pick-up, residents will be asked to contact E360 Solutions directly.

For residential recycling: EPR Alberta
For waste/organics: E360 Solutions Dispatch

There will be no changes to the current pick-up schedule, acceptable materials, costs for residents, or bin layouts at this time.
