It's that time of year again when people can become a part of RCMP history.

The RCMP's annual Name the Foal contest is open for Canadians 14 years of age and younger.

As part of this contest, Canadian youth will be able to provide name suggestions for upwards of 10 foals that are expected to be born this spring at the RCMP's horse breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario.

This year, they are specifically looking for names that begin with the letter "B".

It is believed that the first iteration of the Musical Ride was performed at Fort Macleod in 1876, as their members had begun competing with one another to break up the monotony of the relentless riding drills they were required to perform.

Those children whose names are selected will receive a prize pack that includes a photo of the foal that was given the name the child suggested, as well as a certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner and an engraved horseshoe that was made by an RCMP farrier.

If a classroom submitted a name that was chosen, the classroom will receive a framed photo of the foal they named and a certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner.

In order to participate, the person has to be 14 or younger, live in Canada, and submit one name that begins with the letter "B" before 11:59 p.m. EST on April 25, 2025.
