Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn announced late last week that the after-school program in Weyburn will be coming to an end at the conclusion of the current school year. The program, which was launched as a pilot project, will not continue into the fall of 2025.
Amy Mohr, the Director of Development and Communications for BBBS Regina and Area, said sustainability of the project is the reason for the ending of the project, noting it isn’t something the organization can continue financially to support the program.
However, the ending of this specific program doesn’t mean the end of all programs under the BBBS umbrella in Weyburn.
“Our mentoring programs, both our one-on-one and group mentoring programs, will continue unchanged as they have since 1981,” Mohr continued.
Families and individuals looking to learn more about the mentoring services offered by BBBS in Weyburn can reach out directly.
“We would welcome any calls or discussions to 306-842-4050 or head to our website, which is BBBSWeyburn.ca,” Mohr added. “All of our information about our mentoring programs and the, you know, incredible impact that they have for the young children that are mentored, and then for the community in general, is all found on our website.”
Mohr also expressed gratitude to the community for its support throughout the pilot year of the after-school program.
“A big thank you to the community and the City of Weyburn and the families, you know, for their participation in the Weyburn After School program during its pilot year,” she said. “And, you know, we look forward to continuing to serve the community with our mentoring programs going forward.”
