Last week marked a successful spring book sale for the Weyburn Public Library. Branch manager Dawn Silver reports $4835.75 was raised to support their programming.
“The funds for the book sale are earmarked for programming in particular, because we want to make sure that we can continue to offer all the ages of programming to people for free. The library board feels very strongly that we must continue to do that in today's economic climate.”
Organizing the event got off to a rocky start, as they weren’t getting enough donations for the event, however Silvers says the community came through.
“The last few days people responded to our plea because it looked a little on the thin side downstairs and then we were overwhelmed. It was wonderful.”
Books leftover from the sale will go to Blue Earth, and to the Wor-Kin Shop to be recycled.
Silver says they were pleased with the turnout, with steady traffic on all three days.
“It was really steady. And then because of the super deal to be had on Saturday, right, it was $5 a regular bag or a small box and $10 for a big bag and a big box. People came for that.”
She thanks the community for their support.
“Thank you Weyburn. Once again, you've risen to the challenge.”
