Southwest residents, local art enthusiasts, and more can soon take in a new exhibition coming to a local art gallery, highlighting memory, family relationships, and more.
The exhibit, titled boyish as a birch tree, opens later this week at the Art Gallery of Swift Current to showcase wooden carvings and drawings from Canadian artist Logan MacDonald.
Luke Maddaford, curator of exhibitions and programming at the Art Gallery of Swift Current, noted that the Toronto artist himself will be in attendance at the reception on Friday evening to speak about his work.
"The work is really about memory, understanding, and investigating how we relate to memory in terms of family and things like that," he shared.
MacDonald, who grew up in P.E.I., is a queer writer, artist, and activist who combines themes of identity and past with a unique, thought-provoking art.
"I think anybody who comes to the gallery will be able to get something out of the work," said Maddaford. "Whether it's appreciating the aesthetic choices or some of the more conceptual ideas behind the work."
Everyone is welcome to check out the boyish as a birch tree exhibition from April 11 to June 28 or stop by the reception on Friday anytime between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
