The Neubergthal Heritage Foundation is looking forward to seeing you Saturday afternoon at 2p.m. at the Commons Barn for its next Low German program. The second, and final event, of this month's "Plautdietsche Tietfedrief 2025" will feature Tina Fehr Kehler and Angela Klassen.
"They will be doing both some skits and also some music, and it's all in Low German," explained one of the organizers Joe Braun who noted he's not sure what they will be bringing to the stage, and encouraged all to show up and find out together. "I know they've done some skits for us in the recent past, and they do have a lot of humour."
Tickets will be available at the door for $20, and that includes faspa at the conclusion of the program.
"Well, zwieback, or buns, which are made in the kitchen which has just been recently completed in the Klippenstein Barn, so there will be be the Mennonite zwieback, and of course, the Bothell cheese, the squeaky stuff, and some pickles and lots of dessert, and of course, the coffee."
Over the years there has been pretty good attendance at these Low German focused events.
"It's nostalgia," offered Braun. "They might have lived in villages, or maybe have had, or are having relatives living in the village and they like to go back to see how things are, and how they're different or how they're the same. I think just curiosity is a big thing."
He noted that curiosity is something they are always trying to tap into and connect with through all the events and programs organized by the Foundation.
"One of the missions of the Neubergthal Heritage Foundation is to tell the story of the Mennonites, but also the French community, the Indigenous people, the Lutheran and the Jewish people, so not to forget what all these different groups of people have contributed to our community," he said. "It is good to have people who are willing to do so some searching and bringing in speakers to bring the past up to the present, so people know what had happened."
