This week’s Adorable Adoptables are a fluffy double feature! Meet Mia and Lila, the chinchilla duo you didn’t know you needed in your life.
“They’re so cute. They are so fluffy,” says Robyn Roy, communications coordinator with the Cochrane & Area Humane Society. “Everybody touches them and they’re like, wow. So much hair, such small bodies.”
These sweet girls are 8½ years old, with gentle hearts and peaceful spirits and are currently up for adoption at the Humane Society.
Chinchillas are one of the longest-living rodents, often reaching up to 20 years of age. That means Mia and Lila have lots of love left to give.
These two are independent, content to relax on their own, but they brighten up when a familiar face comes to say hello.
“They are very active little acrobats,” Robyn says. “They need a big enclosure with multiple levels, maybe even a wheel of some kind.”
Mia and Lila enjoy a quiet routine with some gentle play and a few crunchy treats. They’re herbivores and do best on a variety of hays and fresh greens.
Their ideal adopter would be someone with chinchilla experience and the patience to understand their unique personalities.
“It’s definitely more of an intermediate pet,” says Robyn. “They’re social, but they do require some work.”
