The High River Salvation Army Food Bank shelves are getting low and could use some replenishing.
Community & Family Services Program Manager Shiela MacDonald said food security is getting harder and harder for people in our community.
"So, with inflation going up, we have more clients that are coming in too, so we have fewer donations that are coming in as well which is understandable. So, what the food bank needs right now, and the most common items that people ask for, are juice, rice, coffee, canned fruits, canned pasta, ketchup, cooking oil and jam."
The Thrift Store is also looking for support this Friday, April 11, for their 'Partners in Mission' campaign.
Officer Renee Mailman explains, "So, every year the Salvation Army does a campaign called 'Partners in Mission' and every ministry unit around the world in the Salvation Army contributes to this. Then, what happens is that money goes to support ministry units around the world that are not as fortunate as we are here, say in High River or even Canada. This year, they're spotlighting Indonesia, not all the money is going there, but they're just spotlighting the kind of ministries that this money can go towards. In Indonesia, they have a hospital and a school that the Salvation Army runs there to help provide health care and education to people. So, all of the funds raised at the Thrift Store that day (Friday, April 11), whatever people purchase, all that money is going towards our 'Partners in Mission' campaign."
The High River Salvation Army Thrift Store and Food Bank are located at 119 Centre St. and are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closing on Sundays and statutory holidays. Call 403-652-2195 for more.
