He has held various roles within the division, most recently serving as Director of Human Resources and Wellness, and stepping in as Acting Associate Superintendent of Human Resources when needed.

“Jeff’s ability to foster strong school communities, enhance student learning and effectively navigate challenges has consistently been recognized throughout his time with RVS,” said Greg Luterbach, Superintendent of Schools. “I am confident RVS students, staff and families will continue to benefit from his leadership in this important role within the division.”

Smith began his career with RVS at Cochrane High School as an off-campus coordinator and teacher, eventually moving into leadership positions at several schools and within the Education Centre.

“It is a privilege to serve RVS students, families and staff and build on the division’s successes,” said Smith. “I am excited to collaborate with my talented and dedicated colleagues to support the diverse needs of students, staff and communities in this new role.”

Smith holds a Bachelor of Physical Education (Adolescent Studies) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary, as well as a Master of Arts in Education (Administration and Supervision) from the University of Phoenix. He is currently completing a Diploma of Human Resource Management through the University of Manitoba.

Superintendent Luterbach noted that the promotion is a reflection of the division’s commitment to nurturing internal leadership.

“RVS is dedicated to developing strong and capable leadership across our division,” he said. “We are proud to complete our Executive team with one of our own exceptional leaders."

Smith will take over from Murray Besenski, who will continue in the role until the end of the summer to support a seamless transition.

RVS also expressed gratitude for Besenski’s 21 years of dedicated service and the lasting impact he’s had on students and staff throughout his career.
