According to Food Banks Canada's HungerCount report for 2024, Saskatchewan's food bank use has risen 42% since 2019. Just shy of 53,000 people had to turn to a food bank last year -- with 21,000 of them being children. About 2.1 million people across the country accessed a local food bank last year.
The need to help our local food bank is there. The Salvation Army Food Bank in Estevan has served the community for years, providing meals for those who need the help.
We're teaming up with Murray GM and Southern Plains Co-op to restock this necessary resource in our community!
Fill the Truck Food Drive with Murray GM and Southern Plains Co-op
Bring your non-perishable items or cash donations this Friday, April 11th, from 8:00 am til 5:00 pm at Southern Plains Co-op Food Store in Estevan. The goal is to fill a truck provided by Murray GM with the items the Salvation Army Food Bank desperately needs. We'll take any donations that are not expired, but the food bank has its eyes on the following items:
-
Peanut Butter
-
Soup
-
Rice
-
Pasta
-
Canned Pasta Sauce
-
Hot OR Cold Cereal
-
Canned meats
-
Canned tuna
-
Canned vegetables
-
Canned beans
If you don't have any extra non-perishables kicking around your pantry that you can donate, that's okay! Southern Plains Co-op will have pre-made hampers ready to be donated to the food bank for $10 or $20.
Every little bit helps a person in need within Estevan. Donate, support, and FILL THE TRUCK this Friday at Southern Plains Co-op!
