Kenneth Streitenberger
December 20, 1931 – April 6, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Streitenberger on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Loving husband of Tillie and loving father of his children. He passed away at Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw with his wife and daughter Judy by his side.
Ken was born in the Willmont district to George and Josephine (nee Hebig) Streitenberger. They lived on a farm 5.5 miles North of Bruno. He attended Hoffman School with his three brothers and four sisters. In the summer and fall they walked to school and during winter they took a horse and sleigh for the 2-mile trek. In 1949, he went to Ontario to work at a nickel mine for two years. In 1951, he returned to Bruno and worked at the Bruno Hardware Store, also for two years. Then in the mid 1950’s, he met Mathilda Gerding, the love of his life. They were married on December 24, 1956. Together they had 5 children: Judy, Carrie, Glenda, Cindy, and Chris.
On the farm, they raised pigs and sold weanlings for income. They also tended to cows, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, a couple sheep, and later on Ken loved his pheasants and guinea hens, along with his pet geese. To feed all the animals, they also grew crops that the family would look after. Later he went to work at Wish Bone Turkey Farm for a few years. He also enjoyed the outdoors and tending to their garden and flowers.
In 1993, Ken and Tillie bought a house in Bruno. They remodeled and built on it until they officially resided in the home in 1994. They decided to sell the land and later sold the acreage with the house and yard. They lived in Bruno until 2024, when they both moved to Wakaw and into Lakeview Pioneer Lodge.
Ken was predeceased by his parents George and Josephine Streitenberger, brothers Sylvester, Raymond (Francis), Werner (Pierrette), and a brother in infancy, three brothers-in-law Richard Ulrich, Gregor Zerff, and Ed Scheidl, and members of the Gerding family.
Ken is survived by his wife of 68 years, TILLIE; their five children and families:
