Oakville School’s March assembly was a day to remember, as students, staff, and parents came together to celebrate a unique fundraiser led by the student leadership group and Grade 8 student Daniel Tully. In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Daniel shaved his head in front of the entire school to raise funds for new classroom games and to support Central Plains Cancer Services.
Daniel, a member of the student leadership team, came up with the idea as part of a broader initiative to give back to the school.
"We wanted to do something that could make a difference in our school." Daniel said. "I pitched the idea to the leadership team, and they loved it. Then we got Mr. Sokolowski on board, and the whole thing just took off."
Initially, the goal was to raise $1,000, but the generosity of the Oakville School community exceeded expectations.
"We raised over $3,000, which was way bigger than I thought it was going to be," Daniel shared.

Mark Sokolowski, Principal of Oakville School, praised the initiative.
"Daniel and the leadership team wanted to make a positive impact. When Daniel and his mom approached me with the idea, I was all in. We had no idea we'd raise this much, and it speaks volumes about the generosity of our students and staff."
A fun twist to the event was a friendly competition among students to see who could raise the most money for the cause. The winner, Daniel's younger brother Greyson, a Grade 4 student, raised an impressive $675 and had the honor of starting the head-shaving process.
"It was such a great family moment," Sokolowski said, smiling at the sibling rivalry. "Greyson did a great job, and it was a memorable day for everyone."

Daniel’s mom, Ashley Tully, and Grade 4 teacher at Oakville School expressed her pride in her son's efforts.
"As a mom, my heart is overflowing with pride. Seeing Daniel make such a selfless and brave choice, and it truly reflects the amazing person he is. Seeing the excitement from the students was so touching. I couldn’t be prouder of him for stepping up in such a big way—it’s a moment I will cherish forever."
In addition to the head-shaving event, the school unveiled a new, professional-grade sensory path, funded by the Parent Advisory Council. The sensory path, which provides students with a quiet space to regulate their emotions, was installed during the spring break.
"The path is already a big hit with the kids, and it's so important for helping students self-regulate." Sokolowski explained.

The assembly marked a successful day of community support, raising both funds and spirits as Oakville School continues to foster leadership and generosity among its students.
